Protocol details

Where does the work happen?

Your machine runs keccak in the browser, on the cpu with workers or on the gpu through webgl2. The chain only checks the nonce you submit, so the hashrate is yours and the work is real.

Why is difficulty measured in bits?

Each bit doubles the work. The floor rises with the epoch schedule and cannot fall, and a density retarget reacts on top of it, so a crowded era costs more.

What do I actually own?

One hash friend: a 16 x 16 genome, its traits and its svg, held in your wallet. There is no token, no burn and no staking.

How is the price set?

The contract sets the price per epoch and it never falls. The first fifty friends are free; after that every friend is paid for at the epoch price.

01 / What a friend is

A friend is a 16x16 pixel figure. Ten thousand exist, and the supply is fixed. The piece is mined, not purchased from a server: your machine runs real keccak work, finds a nonce under the current target, and the chain mints the friend that nonce defines.

02 / The forge (mining)

Two rigs are available in the browser. CPU mining runs keccak inside web workers - the thread selector chooses how many run at once. GPU mining runs a WebGL2 fragment shader: every pixel on a 1024x1024 pass is one keccak attempt. Every candidate the shader reports is re-verified with a reference keccak before it is accepted, so a wrong result can never be claimed.

Difficulty is measured in bits. Each additional bit doubles the work. The target starts at 18 bits and rises by one bit every 8 epochs, so the same machine finds fewer friends as the eras pass.

03 / Epochs and price

Supply is cut in 200 epochs of 50 friends. The price rises with every epoch and never falls. The first 50 friends are free; from epoch 1 the price starts at $0.10 and climbs to $1.00 by #1,301, $5.00 by #5,001 and $20.00 by #6,401, then accelerates to the final $98.40 at #10,000.

The live table, with every epoch and its difficulty, is on the epochs page.

04 / Difficulty and density

Difficulty has two drivers. The floor rises with the epoch schedule, and it can never fall: even if nobody mines, it keeps climbing. On top of that, a retarget reacts to density - when an epoch fills faster than its target time, the difficulty steps up; when it drags, it eases, but never below the floor.

Because the floor is monotonic, waiting does not make mining easier. The best time to mine is always the era you are in.

05 / Rarity

Every friend is one of a kind. Traits are layered - ear shape, eyes, mouth, body, feet, pattern and accessory - and each carries its own rarity. Rare bands are recorded in the metadata, so a lucky find is provable.

06 / On-chain only

The contract renders the SVG itself from the friend's genome. There is no image host, no IPFS pin and no reveal server: if this site disappeared the art would still resolve from the chain.

07 / Risk note

These pages describe the designed mechanics. They do not establish a token price, a return or live availability. Reward terms, supply and launch parameters remain subject to change until they are written on chain.

short answers
What is actually on-chain?

The friend: a genome plus the SVG the contract renders from it. No image host, no IPFS, no reveal server - if this site vanishes the art still resolves from the contract.

Do I need a GPU?

No. The rig runs on CPU and steps up to the GPU when present; difficulty retargets so the work stays honest either way.

What do I pay, and in what?

Gas on Arc is USDC, and so is the mint price. The friend is yours the moment it lands: the contract itself renders it, no server in between.

Why exactly 10 000?

Every token maps to a unique genome. We generated all ten thousand and deduped on rendered pixels - no two are the same image, so the cap is the genome space we shipped.
